Following another successful year, Absolute Software decided to bring new members to their workforce, in order to continue meeting the increasing demand for world class embedded software, from a growing number of customers. Todd Dowty and Luis Lopes are the latest additions to the team. Read on to find out more on their background.
Todd Dowty (right):
With his roots firmly in electronics design, Todd Dowty started out on the electronics path by completing an MOD apprenticeship. From there, Todd enjoyed several years as a design engineer working in the fast paced consultancy environment covering areas such as embedded software, analogue, digital, power, RF, control, schematic and PCB artwork, to name a few.
Fearing becoming a "Jack of all trades", Todd decided to focus on one area. With this decision he quickly took up a position, in the automotive industry, as an Embedded Software Engineer. This gave experience of typical automotive technologies such as CAN Bus, LIN Bus, FNOS and MISRA.
In time, the opportunity to lead his own design team arose, which, at the time, seemed like the natural career step for Todd. After a number of years in a managerial role, Todd decided that his heart was still in "hands on" engineering. Specifically Embedded Software, hence his joining Absolute Software to take up a position, once again as an Embedded Software Engineer.
During the years Todd has gained experience working on many platforms including; Microchip PIC's (all families), Motorola star 12, Fujitsu, Texas DSP and MSP, Atmel and programming in both ASM and C.
Luis Lopes (left):
After obtaining a degree in Electrical Engineering, Luis Lopes gained experience in electronics engineering, embedded software, and development of desktop and web applications. He then joined the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) department of an energy company, working as a Telecommunications analyst, Project Manager and eventually taking the position of ICT Governance Manager. During these years in the oil and gas industry, he gained experience in aligning technology to business needs.
Being passionate about electronics and software engineering, he decided to take a career break and spent the last two years doing full-time research in automatic speech recognition software for a Master’s degree. Working mainly with Java and the Linux platform, he completed his research and development work which resulted in the filing of a provisional patent by the University. Luis then decided that working for a technology company better met his career aspirations, and joined Absolute Software in January 2009. He is enjoying his role as a Software Analyst and is very enthusiastic for having the opportunity to work on a wide diversity of exciting projects.
