Connections - USB

USB is a surprisingly straightforward interface to implement in your product. There is a wide selection of silicon solutions allowing you to select an appropriate solution for your project. For example, if you have a tight development budget, but a less sensitive product price, then the FTDI chip solutions are ideal.

If you application is price sensitive, then we would recommend a Microchip PIC solution. The latest PIC24 range not only offer very cost effective USB parts, but they now offer USB OTG (On-The-Go) parts. This means your device, for very little cost, provide basic USB host functionality, such as logging to USB memory stick.

If your application requires audio functionality, then we would recommend a Texas Instruments device, such as a TUSB3200. This part is again a very cost effective solution, which allows us to implement standard USB audio devices.

At Absolute Software we have developed many USB products. If you think USB might be required for your product, why not give us a call to share some of our experience.
